Moberg House

The Moberg House is an architectural monument and an object of cultural significance. This is an example of urban residential architecture, built under the influence of the ideas of Finnish national romanticism.

The Moberg house was built in 1906 for the logging engineer G. Wendelin as a private residential building. Later, in 1925, it was reconstructed by Canadian Finns who arrived in the Kalevala region to build a new life. Two names from among the many builders have been preserved: Moberg and Valleri. The building was solemnly opened on May 29, 1926. For more than 70 years, the authorities of various levels and the administration of various institutions have been located in the premises of this building. Now the building houses the ethno-cultural center KALEVALATALO with an exposition of the local history museum, a depository, a department of folk traditional crafts, workshops, the reconstruction of the conference hall with an exhibition hall, a folk theater and an ensemble of kanteli players continues.
