Golikovsky Park

Golikovsky Park is a place for rest and walks of citizens. The park is equipped with benches and lanterns, the paths are paved with concrete paving stones and gabbro-diabase, ash, maple, spruce, pine, larch, birch, and apple trees grow on the territory. Convenient access to the park is from all sides. Within walking distance of theaters, shops, pharmacies, cafes, public transport stops, hotels, shops. Opposite the park on the street. Volodarsky city clinic is located. The park was formed around the current Cathedral of St. Prince Alexander Nevsky. The temple was erected between the urban areas of Golikovka and Zareka in 1832 for the families of the artisans of the Alexander Cannon Factory and for their donations. In 1929, the cathedral was closed and transferred to the local history museum under the industrial department. All domes have been demolished. More than 100 thousand exhibits were kept in the basement of the temple, including church bells and utensils. In 1991 the building was returned to the church, and in 2000 His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia consecrated the cathedral. On the territory of the park there is: a monument to Alexander Nevsky, a khachkar - a stone stele with a carved image of a cross and a memorial sign "The Bell of Chernobyl" (from 1940 to 1978, a monument to Peter I stood on this site, which now stands on Onega embankment, two kilometers from the park). In 2006, a stone Golgotha was found in Petrozavodsk, which belonged to the Holy Spirit Cathedral, blown up in 1936. This is the only shrine left from the Cathedral Square temple. Now Golgotha is installed to the left of the entrance to the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, next to the slab of St. Thaddeus of Petrozavodsk.
