Defensive structures in the city of Medvezhyegorsk

After the Finnish troops captured the city of Medvezhyegorsk in December 1941, the command made a decision to build a powerful defensive structure. It was the "Karhumyaki" (Bear Mountain) defensive knot, which was built by the Finns in the period from 1942-1944.

On the heights around the city, in the rocks, barracks, trenches, pillboxes were cut down, stone anti-tank structures (Dragon teeth) were created on the approaches.

The barracks are carved into the rock. The gaping black hole in the monolith of stone is impressive. The barracks are large rooms with a concrete frame inside. During the Great Patriotic War, the Finns made heating, sewerage and light in them. The walls were covered with wood. Bunkers and trenches are doused with cement, upholstered with wood to protect against splinters when hit.
